On
behalf of our students, we wish to thank those who
have given generously to support the work of the Montclair
State University Cali School of Music. As each class
passes through their courses on the way to becoming
professional performers and educators, therapists
and composers, they are touched by the gifts of our
alumni and friends.
The
Presser Foundation
The
first scholarship from the Presser Foundation at Montclair
State University was awarded in 2005. The Presser Foundation
was formed in 1916 by Theodore Presser, a philanthropist
for the cause of music education and music in America,
with goals of service, with integrity, to music and
musicians; and a vision for the future. The Foundation
supports activities that develop music literacy and
provide firsthand experience in music making, with the
goal of broadening the entire structure of the musical
community.
In
memory of Prof. and Mrs. Thomas Wilt
In
October 2005, the Cali School gratefully received a
donation of Renaissance and Baroque instruments, scores,
books, and recordings from the estate of Prof. Thomas
Wilt, a longtime Professor of Music at Montclair State
who taught flute and was the founder of the MSU Collegium
Musicum.
This
generous gift of early keyboard, winds, plucked and
bowed strings, and percussion instruments, along with
the supporting pedagogical resources will give our students
the ability to realize the sounds of music of the 16th,
17th and 18th centuries. The first concert by Collegium
Musicum that made use of these instruments took place
on November 30, 2005 and was dedicated to the legacy
of Prof. & Mrs. Thomas Wilt.
In
addition, a scholarship honors the memory of Prof. Wilt
and his wife, Michele. Mrs. Wilt was a pianist and a
music teacher in New York City. The Thomas and Michele
Wilt Scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time
music major who will perform his or her senior recital
during that year. The first Thomas and Michele Wilt
Memorial Recital was performed on October 23, 2005.
